Despite still being stricken by THE PlAGUE (officially upgraded to bronchitis; I'm taking my antibiotics like a good girl) I am bouncing around the room with excitement over the new X-Men: First Class character trailers. We now have them for Banshee, Havok, Mystique, and Beast.

My favourite part so far: BABY CHARLES AND MYSTIQUE!!!

I love this concept and already want to write fic about their adorable childhood adventures.

Other things I loved: "all right, Alex, try not to hit me, there's a good chap." And the look on Hank's face when Charles says this is priceless. What cracked me up even more, though, was Charles throwing Banshee out the window *g*.

Hank is cute as a button, and the idea of Beast/Mystique intrigues me - we've all be assuming that Azazel is Movie!Kurt's father ... but what if he's not? Assuming Kurt is about the same age as the actor who plays him, he'd have been born around 1965.

My other wacky theory is that in this universe, Alex Summers is Scott's dad, not his younger brother. Obviously the vast age gap is only an issue if they're sticking to the timeline of Wolverine: Origins and the first three movies. (At this point, there are things that suggest they are, and others that suggest they're throwing all previous movie continuity out the window with Banshee.)

Assuming we are in the same timeline, we now know how Stryker found out the specifics about Charles's powers: he went and told Stryker and a bunch of other government and military types all about them. *facepalm*

It is nice that he wanted to be honest and open! Nice and really, really stupid. One of the things I've always loved about Charles is that despite having a telepath's insight into human nature, he still manages to be mindbogglingly naive on a regular basis. I'm sure youthful arrogance plays a role there, as well - he just doesn't see the day coming when the people in that room could be a threat to him.

One thing I am wondering at this point is what they're going to put in to convince the audience that Charles and Erik are COMPLETELY HETEROSEXUAL. Because this is a Hollywood movie, so there has to be something. (James McAvoy is on record saying of Xavier that "he's definitely got a sex drive" in the film, and I doubt this is demonstrated by having him make out with Magneto. Unfortunately.) I was wondering if the Magneto/Mystique relationship was going to be established from the beginning, but it looks as though she's more interested in Hank. Moira is in the movie as well, though, so perhaps she's with Charles at the start and then she dumps him for Banshee? (Maybe that's why Charles is so keen to throw him out the window.)

I think I am almost over Charles having hair. (It's taking me time to process, because it is Strange and Wrong. I think I understand how the Wolverine fans felt when Wolverine became tall on film.) Now I just need to adjust to Banshee and Moira having American accents :-(.

And I want to read your stories about baby Charles and Mystique's childhood adventures like burning! (BTW, by now it occured to me that this makes them probably each other's first fellow mutants that the other encountered in the movieverse, doesn't it?)

Does Moira have an American accent? Because Rose Byrnes is a British lass (going by her role in RTD's Casanova before she made it big with Damages). Anyway, yes, I strongly suspect Charles will prove his bisexuality with her. (At this point, I doubt ANYONE in the audience would believe he's purely straight, and the studio must know it.)

Your point about Moira makes me think: has Moira had a speaking part in any of the trailers so far?

Rose Byrne is Australian. No telling what accent they're having her play Moira with, though.

I don't think she has (neither her nor Emma Frost, though Moira is far more visible in the trailers than Emma), which is why I really have no idea which accent they'll let Rose Byrne use, either. I stand corrected on her nationality.

I find I have the hardest time commenting on any of those videos because I mostly look at all of them -- particularly Hank (aw, Nicholas Hoult) -- and think OMG I JUST WANT TO PINCH YOUR WEE BABY MUTANT CHEEKS.

I love all these trailers. ^.^

I'm betting it's Charles with Moira and Erik with Mystique (playing her "innocent" romance with Hank against her whatever with Erik as part of Mystique's turning to the dark side, perhaps?)

I already commented on the Beast and Mystique trailers over on Selena's LJ, but the Havok one is one of those things that makes me think, "this is why Charles Xavier is kind of wonderful." I loved that scene with Alex so much: that line you quoted - "There's a good chap!" - and his faith, and that proud little smile.

I am probably more thrilled for this movie than I reasonably should be.
